seeing another guy who only knows taijutsu was actually cool and it made Lee look like a great mentor when he stood up for shira against those jerks who have terrible aim with those rocks

i am pretty tired of the filler but i did enjoy the focus on rock lee and his new friend shira even if the animation for neji looked a bit weird this time

pure taijutsu fights are always the best and shira having basically the same backstory as lee made their bond feel real even if it felt like a bit of a repeat of the leaf village story

lee defending shira was the highlight because it shows how much he has grown since his own days of being bullied and the way he understood shira felt very genuine

you really feel for shira after seeing how the other sand kids treated him and it made total sense for lee to be the one to step in and have his back during that confrontation

the way they drew neji and his techniques in this one was just bad and it is hard to understand why the animation quality drops so hard during these chunin exam filler episodes

Shira basically feels like a sand village version of Lee, but I still enjoyed seeing them interact since it reminds you how hard Lee had to work to get where he is today. It sucks that the war arc got interrupted for this, but watching Lee defend Shira from those bullies was a nice moment even if the rock throwing kids were annoying.

I really loved seeing Gaara make Shira his coach; it just shows how far he's come from being that lonely, feared kid. He used to only trust himself and his sand, so for him to openly respect someone else's hard work like that now, it's genuinely awesome to see.

When those kids started pelting Shira with rocks, my stomach dropped because it immediately reminded me of everything Rock Lee endured and that heartbreaking past. I just hope someone steps up for Shira like Guy-sensei did for Lee, he deserves that kind of unwavering belief.

Honestly, I loved seeing Lee get so fired up about how the Sand village treated Shira; it totally made sense, knowing how he's always had to fight for his own place, and getting another taijutsu specialist like that is just what the series needed, in my opinion.

Rock Lee, busting out those moves, really had me thinking about all the training he must put in; it's a shame we don't get to see his sheer dedication more often, 'cause I just know he's always pushing himself.

why do these filler fights always feel so sluggish now? i just remember the early shippuden battles having so much more impact and speed, and honestly, it makes me kind of sad to see this decline. i really wish they'd put the same effort into every single one.

Gaara stepping in for Shira really hit different, I felt like he wasn't just being the Kazekage, but actually saw his own lonely past reflected in Shira's pain. It makes me think about how much he’s changed, finally finding a way to pay forward the kindness he received rather than just protecting for his own sake. Watching him stand up for someone so openly was just incredibly powerful after knowing his whole story.

I was so hyped when Shira started using that crazy breathing method, it immediately reminded me of Lee and his intense fighting style. It felt like a proper throwback to when raw grit and effort really shined in battles, and honestly, I kinda missed seeing that kind of dedication.

It really got under my skin to see Shira held back just because he excels at taijutsu; you'd think by now, with all the big threats they've faced, the villages would be smarter than to discount pure physical power like that. I just don't get why they're still so stubborn, undervaluing a straightforward strength that could be a huge asset.

Okay, but how was that other guy *that* fast against Lee's Seven Heavens Breathing Gates? I've always seen Lee as the ultimate taijutsu master, so watching someone actually match his speed felt totally insane, and it's making me wonder if he's been hiding some secret techniques.

I honestly couldn't believe how rough Shira's past was, like, it somehow hit even harder than Lee's, which I didn't think was possible for a filler guy. Those bullies though, man, watching them just made me so mad because you know Shira's gonna become something awesome despite them.

Lee throwing himself into helping Shira like that? I immediately knew it wasn't just about being a good guy; he was totally seeing a younger version of himself in Shira's struggles. That personal connection to being judged for taijutsu must've made him feel like he absolutely had to intervene, and it reminded me of all the times Guy-sensei believed in him.

I couldn't help but feel a little deflated when Neji's big moment felt so oddly rigid; I really expected more of his legendary precision and speed. But watching Shira and Lee grind so hard with just taijutsu was super motivating, making me wonder if that's what true mastery looks like when you strip everything else away.

Okay, so usually I skip filler, but Shira's backstory really grabbed me; it felt even more tragic than Lee's struggles, making me feel so much for him. I was genuinely surprised and kinda proud to see Gaara, of all people, standing up for a taijutsu user after everything he went through in the original series, like his past self would never have done that. I just wish the clunky animation for Neji hadn't pulled me out of such a solid, character-driven story.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 400 of 500, this falls deep within an extended filler stretch built around a Chunin Exams side story, following the 'Demon Desert Survival' episodes where teams faced harsh environmental challenges. This installment shifts the lens from survival to personal backstory, fleshing out Shira as a mirror to Rock Lee and establishing emotional stakes before upcoming exam confrontations. It's a breather episode that trades forward plot movement for thematic resonance within the filler arc.
