It is crazy that these guys are supposed to be elite ninjas but they didnt even think to bring food for an exam that lasts days and the writing is just lazy

Thirty people qualifying for the trek to the Sand Village really sets the stakes high even if we already know who survives this whole era

Shira carries himself like he actually belongs in the main story and his introduction is the only thing keeping this filler from feeling like a drag

I hate that we have to sit through more filler just when things were getting interesting but Shira is actually pretty cool so maybe this arc wont be a total waste of time

I know everyone is complaining about the fillers again, but I kind of missed how weird and random these side stories get sometimes. Temari was a total boss which made it worth it because she never misses. Even if the plot feels a bit thin right now, the buildup to the second exam in the Sand Village has me curious

Temari is basically carrying this entire episode on her back, and she looks like such a boss compared to everyone else failing to pack basic supplies like food pills

Watching Temari take charge was awesome because she is easily the best part of this filler arc so far

Okay, that food fight was legitimately nasty with all the sweat flying around, I almost gagged, but seriously, watching everyone just absolutely lose their minds over dinner was peak Naruto ridiculousness. It's kinda comforting how they can still have these wild, goofy moments even with everything else going on.

Fuu really caught me off guard with how strong she actually is; I totally didn't expect that much power from someone who just wants to make friends with everyone. It's kinda sad, honestly, seeing her try so hard to just be a normal kid when she's capable of so much, and it makes me wonder what her life was like before.

Gaara nearly getting taken out right in Sunagakure, during the chunin exams no less, genuinely made me wonder how deep this political scheming runs. I mean, after everything he's been through to protect his village, it feels like such a betrayal to see him still facing threats from within. It just highlights that even Kage aren't safe and the world is still a really dangerous place for them.

Choji and the others getting snatched by that giant scorpion had me seriously clenching, so their rescue was a huge breath of fresh air. But those strange wing sounds from Fuu immediately flipped my feelings to pure suspicion; I'm betting she's got some powerful, maybe even forbidden, trick up her sleeve, and now I'm racking my brain trying to remember if we've ever glimpsed wings like that before.

I can't believe Neji caused such a huge ruckus just because some guy was sweating on the food, that's so in character for him to be all dramatic about honor, even for snacks! And then Fuu just casually swooped in and totally shut it down, leaving me wondering if anyone else could've handled that chaos as smoothly.

My blood pressure definitely spiked watching Kakashi creep through the Rain Village; I was on edge the whole time. Every shadow felt like it was hiding another Akatsuki member, and I just kept thinking how unlucky he'd be to run into one of *them* after everything.

I honestly never thought I'd say this about a filler, but Fuu's unbridled energy trying to wrangle everyone into the bath was just so infectious, it actually made me laugh out loud, she totally has that classic Naruto vibe. And seriously, I was so surprised when Shira effortlessly blocked that kick; I think he could genuinely give Lee a run for his money if they ever went all out.

Ugh, I know this episode's filler, and usually that bums me out, but honestly, Fuu is just so infectious! Her energy and kinda goofy optimism totally remind me of Naruto's early days, making me almost forget it's not canon.

Fuu's dream of a hundred friends, wow, it's just so reminiscent of Naruto's own journey that my heart instantly goes out to her. I can't help but feel a little nervous, seeing how similar her hopeful path seems to his, and I'm really praying she gets all the happiness she's searching for without facing his same hardships.

Okay, when Shira just casually blocked Rock Lee with one hand, I was genuinely shocked; like, who even does that? It really showed me how ridiculously confident he is in his own taijutsu, just standing there without a care in the world.

Fuu just strolled right into the middle of that whole genin cafeteria mess and stopped it cold, which honestly caught me by surprise because I thought it was gonna get way messier. It made me realize how much more composed and in control she is compared to the rest of them, they were totally flailing while she just radiated chill authority.

Gaara talking about how much these exams mean to him because of Naruto really made me think about everything he's been through. It just highlights how much he trusts Naruto and how far he's come from his lonely past, and that makes his decision to take on these security risks feel incredibly personal for him, not just some political move.

Temari was such a boss, I swear, seeing her stand her ground against those Leaf Village guys was just so perfectly Temari, showing off that fiery Sand Village spirit I've always admired in her.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 398 sits deep within Shippuden's extended filler stretch surrounding the Chunin Exams, following 'One Worthy as a Leader,' which examined leadership qualities among the exam participants. This installment serves as a transitional bridge into the second phase of the exams, building anticipation through alliance-forming and rivalries rather than advancing the main Naruto storyline. Viewers tracking canonical progress can safely skip this without losing plot threads.
