A quiet but beautiful start ✨ The characters already feel so real, and the way they portray grief and emotions is incredibly heartfelt. Definitely a refreshing slice-of-life!

I actually don't think there is another slice of life like Ikoku Nikki. The emotion and characters just feel raw and real. Not usually the type of show I look out for, but it is done exceptionally well and looks great as well. I'd give it a try just to see something different.

This first episode felt like a character exploration story, where we'll get to know both Makio and Asa. This served as their introduction, as we see what led to their circumstances on the beginning of the episode. I do like how abstract the characters are feeling, feels realistic

This ep really shows the premise of tackling grief and how it varies with different people like Asa and Makio. I love the scene where Makio empathized with Asa despite her own feelings about the situation. This theme is quite heavy and I'm excited about what's in store for this.

The first ep sets the tone with melancholic heaviness, coziness, gentleness, and realistic with crisp and smooth animation. Great how Makio confronts Asa's grief with empathy instead of the mediocre sympathy the rest of their relatives has. Their conversation felt so natural.

Loving the grounded sense of domesticity in this intro episode. The realistic setting mixed with symbolic scenes is a great backdrop for the complex themes of grief that this story’s aiming to explore. It’s gonna be interesting to see how Asa and Makio sort out their feelings.

Two people fumbling around grief and sharing a space neither of them asked for. It feels very personal. Pacing is slow but never drags. The dialogue alone sold me.

If anime that treats loneliness like a real emotion is your thing, don't sleep on this.

This ep neatly introduced Asa and Makio's personality and dynamic, the grief theme, and the stream-of-consciousness and non-linear storytelling style. As an adaptation I think it managed to convey the manga's introspective feels with sophisticated transitions and visual poetry.

Episode 1 was very engaging from start to finish. After losing her parents, Asa moves in with her aunt Makio, and the story focuses on their life together. She continues to deal with her own emotional struggles and feelings of loneliness after her parents’ death.

The scene where the diary lines turn into a desert? Pure art. It perfectly captures that "I’m lost and there’s nothing here" feeling of losing your parents. Also, the Justin Bieber mention was the most random but human thing ever. I’m hooked.

The first episode really hooked me in with both characters the story is revolving around. Makio and Asa both seem to have their own respective reactions (or lack of) to the death of their relative (sister/mother) and going through their relationship will be interesting.

What a solid first episode. Beautiful scene transitions, animation, voice acting and compelling characters. The scenes shift according to how the main characters feel making it more immersive. A good episode to start a slow burn, high quality anime.

First thing that struck out was how beautiful the animation was; with its clean lines and smooth movements depicting the nuances of life. The pensive moments shows that grief isn't just about loud emotions and dramatic actions - definitely a must watch.

Really good premiere. It quietly presents as a story about grief. Rather than explaining loss, it lets it linger through silence and small moments

What i instantly notice in the first episode was the tone between characters and beautful soundtrack by kensuke ushio, instantly stood out from most action/sequel anime this season

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of thirteen episodes, 'Overflow' is purely foundational—it introduces Makio and Asa's fractured starting point and establishes the series' central question of whether two grieving strangers can build something resembling family. Everything that follows across the season will build on the uneasy dynamic and emotional barriers set up here. Expect subsequent episodes to gradually deepen the connection this premiere deliberately keeps at arm's length.
