Gabimaru losing his memory undercuts his entire arc and raises real questions about motivation and identity. Narrative risk pays off, but it’s quite messy. MAPPA’s animation still slaps, though.
It's a 7/10 for me.

EPISODE CONTEXT
As the thirteenth and final episode of Season 1, 'Dreams and Reality' follows the brutal confrontations of 'Umbrella and Ink' and shifts the focus inward, prioritizing character psychology alongside its action set pieces. The episode functions less as a conclusion and more as a launchpad — consolidating the season's themes of survival and identity while leaving the island's deeper mysteries unresolved. It effectively marks the transition from the initial survival gauntlet into the more complex character-driven territory that a second season would explore.
