In this episode there is a team division to prepare for the first grade mage exam. The division is carried out randomly based on the system from the organizer, where frieren and fern are divided into predetermined "groups"

Lawine and Kanne's dynamic is entertaining to watch, especially when you see their contrast when they synergize as a team. Can't wait to see how they plan to tackle this exam. The foreshadowing is great too

Ubel really catches the eye of people, what an intriguing character. It's also quite funny that Frieren's relic was actually useful here. The dialogue in this episode is well-written, especially with the exam mechanics being explained.

Whenever there are parallels from Frieren's past dialogues to the present, it's crazy that it never feels forced or cringe to hear. Great introduction of the new characters too

The reappearance of Kraft and a lot of new characters. The expression of Frieren every time her teammates are quarreling is cute and as for Fern her teammates looked strong especially the girl that Kraft met earlier.

The Mage Exam arc starts now and meeting so many new mages with unique stats and personalities was a great change of pace. Kanne and Lawine’s dynamic is a total mood. Madhouse still cooking with the world-building and character designs.

And there we gooo. The start of the exam. Glad the necklace Frieren has saved the day. Imagine not being able to take it because you don't have a certificate even though she's in the hero party before lol. Good luck to the team, and also to Fern with Ubel.

So instead of babysitting Stark and Fern, Frieren now has to babysit 2 other team members for her first test for the FIrst-class mage exam. Its funny how someone mature as Frieren to be in the same party as 2 immature girls.

This one is weirdly sweet. Far from being flashy, it’s like watching a group slowly learn to trust each other again. I didn’t expect a teamwork episode here to hit so heartfelt, but it did. I kinda smiled at how messy it all was.

what a good way to start a new arc this will be interesting since we may see different kinds of magic user and friends cant wait to see more of this arc.

The hustle and bustle sounds of the city made the setting feel huge. I like how crisp the animation of the mage exam crowd was. I loved how they introduce the new characters, this made me want to anticipate more from them. This episode made me enjoy how diverse their world is.

I enjoyed the overall vibe of this episode. The introduction of new elements is well paced, and the addition of new characters makes it feel fresh and surprisingly cute in tone.

The start of a major arc is upon us. They cleverly hinted multiple times on the power gap Frieren has to the other mages. They made sure that the introduction of the major characters in the exam are not boring and the added flashback of the new characters was added without swimmingly to the episode. They also gave hints on what we could probably expect from the new characters that for me adds to the expectation.

It was Frieren and Fern's moment as they embark on their First-Class Mage Examination. So, nothing much happened for Stark.

There are new faces we got to know as the exam arc started. It was a good start and interesting.

This episode doesn't evolve Stark too much. It focuses on Frieren and Fern's exam for first-class mage. Interesting to see other mages they'll be working with and fighting with. It's so beautiful when I see Frieren changes and understands differences and other perspectives.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the midpoint of the 28-episode run, Episode 18 marks a decisive pivot from the introspective farewell tone of Episode 17's 'Take Care' into an entirely new arc built around competition and collaboration. The First-Class Mage Exam arc introduces a larger cast and shifts the show's structure from open-road journey to contained trials, testing Frieren and Fern in ways the road hasn't. This episode serves as the launchpad for what becomes one of the season's most sustained and strategically rich stretches.
