The transition to the Namek stuff feels very natural, and seeing the group actually deal with the grief of losing their friends makes the whole battle feel much heavier

watching krillin struggle with the decision to let vegeta go was hard to watch and it makes you wonder if they are going to regret that later

i really felt for gohan and the others while they were mourning piccolo and yamcha because it makes the losses from the fight actually mean something

that hospital sequence is a bit slow and most people probably wanted to get to namek already but he definitely needs time to heal up

how broken up everyone is over yamcha and the rest makes this feel so much more grounded than other shows where people just brush off death

I feel so bad for everyone because the hospital scenes really show how much they lost and seeing Goku all beat up like that sucks

Bulma blowing up the ship was such a massive mistake but at least it led them to finding the one Kami used to get here a long time ago

krillin almost taking out vegeta with that sword was so tense and it is hard to believe goku stopped him after everything that happened

goku asking to spare vegeta just because he wants to fight him again is such a selfish but interesting move and it is cool that he admits it

seeing the survivors sitting in the hospital bed and just processing the fact that half their friends are dead was heavy for me, and it makes the discovery of planet namek feel like a genuine lifeline rather than a random plot point and goku letting vegeta live is such a crazy gamble that shows how his brain works compared to the others

EPISODE CONTEXT

Arriving immediately after the devastating conclusion of the Saiyan conflict, episode 36 serves as a critical emotional bridge between the Saiyan saga and the Namek saga. The battle's toll on the cast is fully confronted here, and the episode plants the foundational idea of journeying to Namek to find new Dragon Balls, directly setting up 'Plans for Departure' and the ambitious interstellar arc ahead.
