Dorohedoro Season 2 Episode 2: Meoto Zenzai / Mastema Subnade / The Tragic Tale of the Cross-Eyes

This episode spends more time expanding the world. Every scene felt like it was building toward something bigger.

After the intensity of episode one, episode two brings in some much‑needed comic relief. The lighter moments help balance the chaos, but the story also dives deeper into new themes. The biggest one is the abuse of power and the divide between the haves and the have‑nots.

We see this clearly in two examples: the landlord demanding rent but offering to erase the debt if Ushishimada agrees to be her partner, and Mr. Maki’s harsh treatment of Natsuki when she voices her opinion about the black powder. Both moments highlight how those with power exploit those without it.

The fight scenes, however, were underwhelming. The battle between Caiman and Mr. Maki felt mid, and the clash between Risu and Dongua lacked energy. I kept wishing for more choreography and less reliance on brute force.

One theme I did enjoy was the idea of luck. The landlord’s accidental death, Natsuki stalking Caiman and Nikaido, and her later rescue by Caiman all play into this sense of chance shaping events. It adds unpredictability to the story, reminding us that survival in the Hole often comes down to fortune as much as strength.

Overall, episode two was okay. It expanded the world with new themes and gave us some comic relief, but the fights didn’t quite deliver. Still, the mix of power struggles and luck keeps the story intriguing enough to continue watching.

It's grimy, desperate, and filled with that bizarre, low life slice of life charm that this show does better than anyone else. The pacing is fast but gives the new faces room to breathe, and the writing contrast between the absolute poverty of the low level sorcerers and En’s ridiculous luxury is pure gold.
