QUICK TAKES

the pacing here is exceptional. each scene flows naturally into the next without pausing to explain itself, which creates a rhythm that makes the runtime feel impossibly short. the writing trusts the audience completely and it shows.

i literally cannot stop squirming watching this show because every single scene builds on the last one. this is genuinely just so fun in a way i did not expect at all from an anime about notebooks and death gods tbh

i had to put my phone down multiple times because the tension just keeps building and building without ever releasing. every single detail in this episode feels like it matters and like it will come back later.

On the other hand, top 10 worst first dates ever!! Probably will never see this girl again, but Light's ability to put himself in situations and create situations to his advantage is such a hack.

Ryuk continues to be the world’s least helpful moral compass, I can't blame him, he is not supposed to be one.

EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming off 'Dealings,' where Light first realizes he's being monitored, 'Pursuit' marks a critical pivot from reactive curiosity to proactive scheming—Light is no longer just testing the Death Note, he's weaponizing his intellect against an unseen opponent. This episode bridges the early experimental phase with the full-blown strategic warfare that erupts in episode five, 'Tactics,' effectively laying the groundwork for the iconic L versus Light dynamic that will define the rest of the series.
