I finally tracked down that weird Brothers Grime dub version of this episode and it was a total trip to watch. Seeing how they re-edited everything for that old US release adds such a strange layer of history to the whole experience and the slapstick comedy actually lands pretty well even with the budget sound quality.

I remember hearing about this episode on Reddit because so many people accidentally watched it way too young, and now I totally get why it stuck with them. The shift from romantic drama to this weird space comedy parodying Dirty Pair is such a trip. That pickled cucumber part is still burned into my brain for all the wrong reasons.

I am still trying to wrap my head around Kanata asking a plant to turn her into a man, just so she could sleep with Lan for a demonstration and it is such a strange direction for a sci-fi parody to take, even for this series, and seeing those Dirty Pair lookalikes in that situation felt like a complete fever dream
