The opening was a little hard to latch on to and follow due to the pacing, but dropping the audience right into it made me feel a part of the chaos. I was admittedly pretty confused for the first half though..

What an opener for this series.. the bounty people and especially the guy's accomplice lady were so charming, I wish they could've stuck around for longer. Their 'ending' was really impactful and reinforced the crueler nature of this world through the action & gore.

This episode was an absolute BANGER! I don't normally like sci-fi or futuristic world-builds, but the unique take on the 90s era in combination with the futuristic mecha made the world instantly interesting to me. The older style of animation also does heavy-lifting!

The episode was wholesome. It was nicely done, starting from the 90s space animation with comedic acts and action scenes. The OP reminded me of 007, Lupin, Spy x Family-like vibes, and the ED has that retro groove with remarkable bass sound.

I still finding this one of the greatest examples of foreshadowing and subtle exposition, all the details and clues we receive sees reflected in later plot points and chapters here Spike Spiegel became the coolest character ever drawn in any media and also a very tragic one.

It straight-up drops you into this retro-futuristic world with zero context. We witness Spike and Jet chasing a bounty on some dusty asteroid colony. Doesn’t go too much into character depth at first, but if you vibe with style-first storytelling, this one's a definite watch.

Episode one starts off with a strong hook, a mistery revolving Spike's past. The pacing is reserved, every frame conveys heavystylistic representation. The fighting is really good. The opening is lively and full of energy, the setting of this episode is based in Tijuana, México.

Instant classic energy. Space western vibes hit HARD and the jazz-infused atmosphere is unmatched. Spike moves like he’s bored but dangerous. The world feels lived-in immediately. That ending tone? Pure mood.

Spike is undeniably a genius, showcasing skills that parallel those of a master gunslinger in this episode of the story.

Spike shows up effortlessly cool, chasing down Asimov and his unpredictable partner, while Jet keeps things grounded with his calm, steady presence. The world already feels lived-in, and the retro 90s art style just hits; every frame is stylish, moody, and aesthetic.

Bro, Spike just strolls in like he owns the place 😎 Jet’s serious face, the thief causing chaos everywhere, and the fight scenes? Smooth as butter. That jazz track hits and you’re like yeah… this show is straight-up iconic. 🛸

This is one of the best openers for an anime ever made. Right from the get go, you get Spike dripping with charisma and style even though you barely know anything about him. The mix of sci-fi and noir, with a touch of western is astonishing.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of twenty-six episodes, 'Asteroid Blues' establishes the series' episodic bounty-hunting structure and the core dynamic between Spike and Jet before the crew expands in subsequent episodes. It plants the show's thematic DNA—cycles of violence, nostalgia, and running from the past—without revealing the deeper backstories that later episodes will unpack. Everything that follows builds on the tonal foundation laid here.
