This episode represents the "calm before the storm." It’s designed to make you appreciate the group’s friendship before the high-pressure stakes arise.

When that swarm of hawks just descended on Bocchi, I literally snorted, like, how does this stuff *always* happen to her? Her just giving up and lying in the dirt afterwards was such a perfect Bocchi move, and it honestly made me feel a little bit of secondhand embarrassment for her, even while I was laughing.

Ryo saying her brain has no storage left because she needs space for bass riffs is the most relatable thing a musician has ever said on screen

A beach episode where they just eat octopus crackers and get bullied by birds instead of doing the usual fanservice is exactly why this show is special

I felt that opening montage of her staring at the calendar and the ceiling in my soul because that is exactly how my last three summers went down

It was so sweet seeing the girls realize Bocchi spent her whole summer alone, and then they decided to drag her out for a trip. I loved the contrast between the gorgeous scenery and the absolute chaos of the hawk attack. Seeing Ryo try to pay for an escalator with a bass guitar was hilarious, but that final shot of the school festival poster has me nervous

ryo saying her brain is empty so she can store more bass riffs is exactly what you expect from her and nijika threatening to take her pay for those loans was the best dynamic shift

ending with kita looking at that school festival poster has me so excited for what comes next and it was a nice way to end after all the enoshima bird attacks

that fake ending screen almost got me but the octopus crackers looked so good and seeing bocchi actually smile in the group photo made my heart melt a little bit
vicious_179's avatar
vicious_179
you really have to feel for them dying on those shrine stairs and then finding the escalator was like a gift from god although ryo trying to pay with a bass was such a broke move

the scientific explanation for bocchi being a sloth was a highlight and seeing her room turned into a literal black hole where light cannot escape is the most accurate depiction of social anxiety ever

People calling this a filler episode are missing the point, because seeing the girls actually hang out as friends matters so much for the band dynamic. I loved the contrast between the beautiful Enoshima scenery and Ryo getting her ice cream snatched by a hawk while Bocchi prayed like a maniac at the shrine for summer to reset so she could stay home

Kita's aura is literally blinding, and seeing Bocchi explode into pink dust the moment those scouts talked to her made you realize how much you like these idiots even if the episode was just a beach trip

When Bocchi got absolutely swarmed by those hawks, I seriously felt a twinge of guilt for how hard I laughed, but watching her get launched into the ground was just peak Bocchi-level misfortune that I can't help but find hilarious. That little crater she left behind? Pure comedic gold.

i felt that opening bit in my soul because sitting in your room watching the calendar flip while everyone else has a life is way too relatable and seeing her turn into a dehydrated husk was too real

It was hilarious when Kita dragged a half-dead Bocchi into photos at the train station, especially since you can tell she is just trying her best to be a good friend

Some people might call this a filler episode but the character moments at the shrine were actually pretty deep. Seeing the difference between Kita praying for the band and Bocchi desperately begging the gods to just let her stay home or become famous instantly was gold. It shows how much they still have to grow as a group before that festival performance.

My heart went out to Bocchi when she was crawling up those shrine stairs like a zombie and seeing the girls find the escalator was the best part of the whole island trip

The way the band members reacted to that couple in the tropical shirts, all lovey-dovey, totally got me. I mean, my stomach clenched just watching them, it was such a raw display of their collective social awkwardness and why they're so endearing.

The way Bocchi turned into a literal dust cloud when those guys approached her on the bridge was too accurate for anyone who hates unexpected social interaction and wants to disappear on that bridge

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the high-stakes energy of Kessoku Band's first live performance in Episode 8, this ninth episode deliberately downshifts to a relaxed hangout format, letting the emotional aftermath settle and the group dynamic strengthen outside of music. At the three-quarter mark of a 12-episode season, it functions as a crucial bonding chapter that reinforces the interpersonal foundation needed before the final stretch. The remaining episodes will escalate toward the band's next major performance, and the camaraderie built here provides the emotional stakes for that climax.
