Did anyone else just stare, completely bewildered, at Urahara's captain ceremony? I know him as this ridiculously sharp, calculating genius, so seeing him stumble and look utterly wimpy while trying to lead the Twelfth Division felt almost like a bad joke, honestly making me question what was even going on.

Hiyori needs to chill with the face kicking because Urahara is just trying to do his job as the new captain and the guy is taking those hits like a total champ

I saw young Byakuya and Gin today and it blew my mind while Aizen looks so weirdly bulky in this style but that roof talk was the best part

The pacing feels dragged out because they spent half the episode showing Hiyori kicking Urahara in the balls over and over and it stopped being funny after the third time they did it

Learning about the origins of the visoreds and how they all interacted back in the day makes the current timeline feel much more connected and explains why Yoruichi trusts Urahara with so much important stuff

This whole flashback arc is exactly what the story needed to explain why everyone is in the human world, and I was so surprised by how much of a mess Urahara was as a new captain but seeing Shinji actually be the one to notice Aizen lurking behind that pillar was the highlight for me because it really changes how I see their dynamic

Yoruichi with her short hair in that flashback was a sight, and it kinda makes me question her motives; seeing her so deliberately orchestrate Urahara's promotion, even when he clearly can't even stand Hiyori for a second, felt like a calculated move rather than just friendly support, and I can't help but feel a little suspicious of her intentions.

Spending all that time on the slapstick comedy between Hiyori and Urahara felt like a waste when the real interesting stuff was Shinji talking about the shadows and the hidden dangers in the seireitei

The contrast between current Urahara and this younger version is hilarious because he looks so lost and disorganized while trying to impress a division that clearly wants nothing to do with him or his style

That moment when Aizen is just standing there eavesdropping on everyone makes his later betrayal feel even more calculated and creepy especially with Shinji giving those cryptic warnings about not changing for other people

I think Shinji calling out Aizen for hanging in the shadows was the best because it shows he was always suspicious of that guy even back then before everything went south and became a total mess

Hiyori really loves kicking Urahara in the face and it keeps happening every five minutes while he just stands there looking like he has no idea where he is or what a captain should do

Kisuke looking so totally out of his element in Squad 12, especially with Hiyori relentlessly on his case, genuinely made me gasp because I'm so used to his calm, genius self. It's wild to think Aizen was already lurking in the shadows, probably enjoying every moment of Kisuke's awkward struggle, which just amps up the future dramatic irony for me.

Honestly, I was getting so annoyed with Hiyori constantly kicking Kisuke, it just felt like that joke kept going and going until it wasn't even funny anymore. After the third or fourth time, I found myself just wishing they'd move on with the actual story, which felt needlessly prolonged by the repetition.

I was honestly stunned seeing Mayuri in that prison cell, totally maskless and looking so different; it was quite a reveal for his character. Thinking about how he eventually becomes a captain, I can't help but wonder what Urahara saw in him back then – it makes me question Urahara's judgment, or perhaps just how desperate he really was.

Urahara, trying his absolute best to be a good captain and keep everyone cheerful, gave me such a heavy feeling in my chest. I couldn't help but just focus on the dramatic irony of it all, knowing his future exile makes his current hopeful innocence almost too painful to watch.

Urahara just waltzing into the Maggot's Nest to start his department totally threw me for a loop, but then again, that's so him, isn't it? It makes me wonder if he was always this audacious, or if his experiences just sharpened that uncanny ability to spot worth in places no one else would even dare look.

I honestly can't believe Urahara just walked into the Maggot's Nest and pulled Mayuri, a complete menace, to start the research department; it's so wild to me. It makes me wonder what Kisuke saw in such a dangerous mind, or if he just thrives on taking those kinds of incredible risks for the sake of science.

Ugh, Hiyori and her constant screaming at Urahara really started grating on me this episode, like, I get it's supposed to be funny but it just dragged on and on. It actually pulled me out of the moment a bit, which is a shame because I'm usually so invested in the drama of their past.

Watching Shinji and Kisuke just casually talking on the roof felt so strangely bittersweet to me, like a calm before the storm. I couldn't help but think about all the wild Visored drama that happens later, and it just made this quiet moment feel incredibly poignant, knowing what they'd go through.

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode continues the Turn Back the Pendulum flashback arc, picking up directly from the previous episode's jump to events 110 years in the past within Soul Society. It deepens the historical context by establishing key relationships — especially between Urahara and Hiyori — that directly inform present-day allegiances and tensions. The groundwork laid here sets the stage for the catastrophic events that will explain why figures like Urahara ended up exiled from Soul Society.
