The action looked decent but the story was weak and it is nice to be back to the real plot now. Amagai was not a very compelling villain compared to the espada

Watching Ichigo win with a random light show was pretty lame and the internal monologues during the fight killed the momentum. Skip this whole arc if you value your time

I am so glad to see the end of this filler arc and at least the fight had some cool moments before the talking started. Ichigo just getting stronger out of nowhere made zero sense though

I actually fell asleep while they were talking about strategy in the middle of a sword fight. This whole arc was just a way to kill time and it shows

Finally done with this arc and it was such a slog. Amagai felt like a total waste of a character and that final blast was just silly

Did Amagai even know what to feel in his final moments, walking into those flames? I was genuinely stunned by the reveal about his dad, which made his entire vendetta against Yamamoto feel incredibly hollow and just heartbreaking to witness. The sheer, awful truth hitting him *right* as he was about to give up everything was such a gut punch.

Whew, Amagai’s dramatic end, him just igniting himself like that after finally realizing Yamamoto was actually trying to save his father from that corrupt sword, really left me conflicted. I can't imagine what's going through Kira's head, watching a captain he respected so deeply just go out in such a tragic way; it's honestly pretty heartbreaking.

That final Getsuga Tensho from Ichigo, exploding into the fire, literally made me gasp – the raw power and explosive impact of that clash felt so real and desperately huge. I was totally not ready for how intensely dramatic it was, especially after some of the more drawn-out, less visually arresting skirmishes earlier in this arc.

A sense of finality washed over me as the Captain-Commander finally stepped in, drawing the entire Kasumioji clan drama to a definitive close, and honestly, I was beyond ready for this drawn-out conflict to conclude. Despite his villainy, seeing Amagai's downfall felt less like triumph and more like a somber, inevitable end to a truly misguided path.

I really felt for Kira getting that bit of closure with Amagai, even though honestly, I was still pretty ticked off that Amagai turned out to be such a massive traitor trying to bring down the whole Gotei 13. It's just so frustrating when you invest in a character only for them to pull something like that, but I'm glad Kira got his moment.

When that final explosion hit, I was genuinely surprised by how good it looked, even for a filler episode, but seeing Ichigo's mask pop up just made me question everything about his control. It’s like, is he even fully aware of the sheer power he's wielding, or is there a monster lurking under that mask waiting to break free?

Amagai's realization that the bakuto had utterly messed with his dad, forcing his hand in that terrible moment, just twisted me up inside; I can only imagine the bitter irony and sorrow consuming him, learning the real truth after all this time.

Kira's apology just felt so hollow to me, like it was more about just wrapping up this incredibly dragged-out fight than genuine remorse; I was honestly so over the whole thing and just wanted them to move on already.

My stomach clenched watching Yamamoto just seal away the truth about his own father; it's so dramatically him to always prioritize the Soul Society, no matter the personal cost. I wonder if deep down he ever feels the immense weight of those sacrifices, or if he's truly become nothing but the embodiment of duty.

I mean, watching Amagai just go up in flames as an apology, realizing his whole revenge plot was for absolutely nothing, just felt incredibly bleak to me. It's messed up how all that anger and misguided loyalty led him to that point, and it’s a heavy reminder that sometimes even the most determined people are just pawns.

I gotta say, Ichigo pulling out the hollow mask to get around the shinigami power suppression was such a classic Ichigo move, and I totally loved it. When that final getsuga blast clashed with the bakoto flames, it felt like the whole episode just exploded with energy, like he was really showing them what's what.

After all that intense fighting and palpable desperation, I'm just so deflated that it boiled down to one colossal misunderstanding. It makes me question if any of them truly understand the full scope of their conflict, or if this whole war is just a tragic cascade of miscommunications, almost like how easily things went sideways even in Hueco Mundo.

Though Amagai's final moments were genuinely heartbreaking, painting him as a man caught in a web of deceit, my patience for this whole diversion is really thin. I just want Ichigo back to fighting the Espada; this long detour has me itching to return to the real stakes in Hueco Mundo.

Honestly, I was pretty annoyed with this episode, it felt like it dragged on almost as much as the Bount arc did, and then for the main villain to just off himself over a simple error? That really felt like such a lame way to end things for him, especially considering all the build-up.

I guess Kaien's apology to Rukia right before he died kinda eased the sting a bit, but honestly, I still can't get over how messed up that whole situation was. It really leaves me wondering what he was truly feeling in those last moments.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 189 is the final chapter of the anime-original 'New Captain Shūsuke Amagai' filler arc, resolving the central conflict that 'Duel! Amagai vs. Ichigo' (Episode 188) escalated into a full showdown. With this arc's conclusion, the series immediately pivots back to canon territory — Episode 190 kicks off the 'Hueco Mundo Chapter, Restart!' and resumes the manga-adapted storyline. Viewers eager to return to the main plot can treat this as the last filler checkpoint before things get back on track.
