Despite the slow pace, I struggled to enjoy this episode. Because the story focuses on training to improve each character's strength, it can feel a bit boring. Nevertheless, I was quite entertained thanks to the well-placed humor.

I feel so bad for Ichigo looking at that empty desk and everyone forgot about Rukia but at least Orihime remembers her and that hit me right in the gut

Seeing Rukia in that cell while Renji talks about her execution is just brutal and Byakuya not even looking at her for forty years is such a cold move

Finding out there is a giant world hidden under a candy shop is exactly what you expect from Urahara, it makes you wonder what else that guy is keeping secret

Byakuya is the most heartless brother ever for just letting Rukia sit in that cell waiting for a death sentence and Renji actually looked a bit bothered by it despite being a jerk

My heart broke when Rukia said Byakuya has not looked at her once in forty years because that is just cold even for a soul reaper

I felt so bad for Ichigo when he was staring at Rukia's empty desk and realized nobody else even remembered she existed and it was such a lonely scene until Orihime finally spoke up

Rukia being over forty years old is a wild revelation, especially because she looks like a high schooler, and it makes the Soul Society feel so much older than we thought

Ururu hitting Ichigo that hard was the funniest and most terrifying thing in the episode and Urahara is definitely hiding something huge about his past with those skills

The memory erasure was actually super eerie, but seeing Chad and Orihime step up to help Ichigo made the school scenes feel way less depressing.

Uryu trying to look cool while training alone and then getting completely weirded out by a talking cat was the best part of the whole episode because Yoruichi is such a strange character

Urahara is actually insane for having Tessai cut the chain of fate like that and now Ichigo is basically a ticking time bomb

Uryu acting like he only wants to train because he hates losing to shinigami is such a classic move from him and you can tell he actually cares about the situation

Seeing Ichigo back at school while Rukia is facing a death sentence felt so wrong and the way everyone just forgot her name made the atmosphere feel heavy and then Urahara starts this crazy training where a kid is literally beating him up and honestly there is no way to know how he is going to get his powers back in time

Renji coming into that cell just to tell Rukia she is going to be executed was cold and then hearing her say Byakuya wants her dead was even worse

The art looks so much sharper in this episode and it really helps during those underground training scenes where Ichigo looks genuinely desperate while he is stuck at the bottom of that massive hole

Watching Ururu absolutely wreck Ichigo during that training was hilarious and scary at the same time because she looks so tiny and Urahara is definitely hiding something huge about his past

Ichigo staring at that empty desk really got to me and seeing everyone forget her is just painful but I love that Chad and Orihime still remember

The contrast between the dark training in the pit and the school scenes really worked for me. Orihime imitating Ichigo's serious face was so cute and it actually made me smile after that depressing start where everyone forgot Rukia. I still think Urahara is super suspicious though because he seems way too comfortable with almost turning Ichigo into a hollow.

Everyone forgetting Rukia existed is so creepy and seeing her seat empty at school made the whole situation feel way more real and depressing

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the aftermath of Ichigo's devastating encounter in Episode 17, this episode marks the beginning of a critical recovery and training phase, redefining the stakes before the next major arc escalates. It directly sets up Episode 19, 'Ichigo Becomes a Hollow!', where the consequences of Urahara's methods take a dangerous turn. At episode 18 of 366, this is foundational territory — early enough that the series is still assembling its core cast's abilities and motivations.
