A super tense chapter that proves why the Arrancars were Captain-level threats. It definitely makes me wonder just how far Ururu and Jinta’s powers go, though. Kubo-sensei’s art is flawless as ever.

The power gap between the soul reapers and these arrancars is scary because even with the limiters coming off everyone is still getting their teeth kicked in

I finally got to see Renji use his Bankai finisher and it felt like a huge step up from how he usually just swings that bone snake around

Ururu suddenly going berserk mode on Illfort was so cool and nobody expected a child to start throwing hands like that against an arrancar

My chest hurt seeing Rangiku and Renji struggle so much against these guys and it makes the Espada seem way more dangerous than anything they faced in the Soul Society

Shawlong stabbing Hitsugaya was hard to watch and it makes you wonder if Hyorinmaru is even that strong since he had his Bankai out and still got demolished

It is weird that the genius captain is losing this badly, especially when he already has his dragon wings out and everything

Toshiro looks so desperate with those ice flowers melting away and the way Shawlong just analyzes him is brutal

Hearing that the captains were fighting with a limit on their power this whole time makes so much sense considering how they were getting trashed

Yylfordt just toyed with Renji the whole time and watching another captain level fighter struggle this much makes the power scaling feel completely broken

The moment we found out the numbers were just birth dates, the threat of the actual Espada became way more terrifying.

Shawlong talking for ten minutes about how bankai works while Toshiro just stands there was a bit much even if the lore about the numbers was interesting

That cliffhanger with the limit release gave me chills and I need to see Hitsugaya and Rangiku actually fight at full strength now

Renji is getting his lunch eaten again and it is honestly getting hard to watch him take this many losses even with his bankai out

I was genuinely worried for Toshiro when those petals started falling off because it makes his Bankai feel so much more fragile than I thought. Finding out the numbers on these Arrancars are just based on when they were born and not how strong they are is a crazy twist because it means the Espada are going to be on a totally different level.

The action stopped way too many times for Shawlong to explain Toshiro's bankai to him and it really killed the tension for me

Hitsugaya losing his ice petals like that was actually scary and the reveal about the Arrancar numbers being birth order instead of power changes everything

Renji and Toshiro getting their pride handed to them by these new enemies is such a massive blow after all they went through in the Soul Society and things look so grim

The animation during the sword clashes felt so much more fluid today and you can really feel the weight of Shawlong’s claws every time he swings at Toshiro’s head

It is kind of embarrassing how easily Shawlong is reading Toshiro’s movements and pointing out every single flaw in his combat style while the captain just takes hit after hit

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following Episode 119's spotlight on Ikkaku Madarame's fierce battle, Episode 120 rotates the focus to Hitsugaya and Renji, continuing the pattern of simultaneous Soul Reaper-versus-Arrancar clashes that define this stretch of the arc. The escalating difficulty these captains and lieutenants face reinforces the Arrancar's threat level and sets the stage for even higher-stakes confrontations to come. This is a canon episode that deepens the tension roughly a third of the way through the series, building toward critical turning points in the larger war.
