Ikkaku really went through all that just to keep his Bankai hidden so he could stay under Kenpachi's command, and honestly, that kind of loyalty makes me question if it's admirable or just a bit foolish. I guess I'm surprised by how deep his dedication runs, but it totally tracks with his whole vibe.

My jaw literally dropped when Ikkaku finally used his bankai to finish off Edrad because I never expected a non captain to have that power

It felt like Ryumon Hozukimaru was taking a lot of damage during that finish, which makes you wonder if it can even be fixed properly

A third seat having a bankai is a massive shock and the dragon charging up as the fight gets more brutal looks so good

That dragon crest on the axe slowly turning red while he fights shows how much Ikkaku actually loves dragging out a bloody brawl

Yumichika knowing all along that his friend was hiding his true strength just to stay loyal to the captain was such a good moment between them

My jaw hit the floor when those giant blades appeared and I honestly didn't think Ikkaku had that kind of secret in him at all

Edrad Liones asking for Ikkaku's name right before the end was a great touch, it really showed how they both respected the fight.

That bankai looks massive and scary but seeing it actually start to crack and break makes the whole battle feel much more dangerous and high stakes

It is wild to think Ichigo might have actually lost in the Soul Society arc if Ikkaku had used this weapon back then during their duel

The way Ikkaku baited him with those predictable patterns just to get a better fight proves he is a total lunatic and I love it

I really wasn't expecting a 3rd seat to have that much raw power under his belt, but seeing Ikkaku finally unleash his bankai against that arrancar was incredible. It makes so much sense that he keeps it a secret just so he can keep fighting under Kenpachi. That dragon crest charging up as the fight got bloodier was such a cool detail.

Edrad really thought he had the upper hand but he got absolutely crushed once Ryūmon Hōzukimaru came out in all its glory

Seeing that dragon crest on the blade turn red was so cool and it really showed how much Ikkaku loves a life or death fight

I can't believe Ikkaku was hiding a bankai this whole time and he just wanted to stay in Kenpachi's squad instead of being a captain instead of being promoted

That final clash where the bankai finally reached full power was pure insanity and the visual of those huge axes colliding with the arrancar was brutal

It is crazy how Ikkaku is basically captain level but he just wants to fight and drink with his buddies instead of taking a promotion

You really get a sense of how much Ikkaku loves his squad when he admits he would rather hide his true strength than ever leave the eleventh division

Watching the dragon crest fill with red was the highlight for me and it made the payoff of that final swing feel so much heavier

Edrad looked like he had the upper hand with that iron skin, but the destructive force of Ryumon Hozukimaru just wiped him out once it fully woke up

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting deep in the Arrancar arc, Episode 118 runs parallel to the multi-front battles unfolding across Karakura Town after the Arrancar invasion escalated — Episode 117 kicked off Rukia's own confrontation, and this installment shifts focus to Ikkaku's simultaneous clash. The episode builds on the growing threat the Arrancar pose while developing a fan-favorite supporting character in a major way, setting the stage for further individual Soul Reaper showdowns in the episodes ahead.
