The plot about the underground club and the curses is actually interesting enough to be its own horror anime and the physics on some of the character models are surprisingly smooth

That scene where Taki finds the Black Bible in the school basement was actually kind of intense and I liked how the music built up the dread before things got weird

Finding that book was creepy, but the actual supernatural horror elements are surprisingly solid for a series that is mostly known for being a classic gateway into this specific genre

The animation on the hair and the character movements looks way better than most modern shows and the dark atmosphere in that dusty basement really sets a creepy mood for the occult stuff

I can't stop laughing at the English dub because the voices sound like they are from a completely different show and it makes the ritual scene in the basement feel like a total comedy sketch

the dark history of the club and the way that twelve year old mystery felt in the basement made it obvious that book was going to ruin everything

it is wild how fast the situation escalated from a simple curiosity to a literal nightmare once the magic started spreading through the class

everything changed the second that book was opened and the atmosphere in that school shifted from normal to completely insane

I was not prepared for how much the supernatural stuff would carry the episode and it makes the school feel so dangerous, watching Taki find the Black Bible in that decrepit basement was a huge turning point and seeing the magic actually take hold of people was genuinely unsettling because I felt like he lost control immediately after trying it once

that book looks absolutely cursed and the music playing while he was exploring the dusty basement gave me actual chills

my stomach dropped when the magic started taking over because you can tell Taki has no idea what he just unleashed on his friends

that basement scene was actually so creepy and finding that book feels like a terrible mistake for everyone involved

seeing him test out the spells and realize they actually worked was definitely the point where things got out of hand

learning about the old club history while he was down in that basement made the whole atmosphere feel way more oppressive

I was actually shocked by how dark the atmosphere got once he opened the book, it felt way more like a horror movie than I expected

That first ritual scene with the candles had some surprisingly good animation for an old show and the atmosphere was actually dark

I really do not know how to feel after finishing this, because the supernatural horror vibes in that basement were actually pretty decent. It sucks that the story just uses the book as an excuse for Taki to be a total monster to Kurumi and everyone else though. The occult stuff had potential, but he is easily one of the worst main characters ever.

Seeing that old book hidden under the floorboards actually set a cool spooky tone before everything just turned into a mess of sex scenes

The way the English dub actors deliver those serious lines about black magic makes the whole basement scene feel like a parody

I felt so dirty after Taki started using that book on girls and it makes him such a total creep right from the start

EPISODE CONTEXT

As Episode 1 of 6, 'School of Black Magic' is pure foundation — the inciting incident that triggers everything to follow. There is no prior episode to reference; this is the entry point. It sets up 'Black Ceremony,' the next episode, where the consequences of Minase's experimentation with the spell book begin compounding and the series shifts from discovery into escalating, darker territory.
