It was so sad how Casca could only escape the mental gravity of the grim situation by blaming Guts all those years. Guts shouldering her burden (literally) helped her see how dire the band's happenings were + understand it wasn't neither's fault.

The way they showed Griffith's torture was horrible. Even though it was brief what are they doing to my goat???

This episode highlighted how much Guts had changed and grown away from the group. It elaborates on the prominence of him leaving, while also cementing that Guts joins the band of the hawk again on his own volition; showing just how far his development of self has gone.

Guts and Casca finally confront their feelings for each other. It’s one of the few moments of genuine happiness before the tragedy to come.

Guts and Casca reunion is off the chart! they look perfect to each other but I feel sorry for Griffith his eyes are getting much colder! also the monster appearance something is cooking

UP: Guts realizes his mistake in leaving. His guilt is POWERFUL. Casca leading the remnants of the Hawks is compelling. DOWN: The year gap feels rushed. You want to see more of the Hawks struggling. Griffith's torture is shown briefly but it's ENOUGH to haunt you. ⛓️

Reality fractures. The shift in tone is horrifying, signaling a permanent break from anything resembling normalcy.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned at episode 21 of 25, 'Confession' follows Guts' reunion with the Band of the Hawk and serves as a critical emotional anchor before the series enters its devastating final stretch. The intimate character work between Guts and Casca here deepens stakes that have been building since the Golden Age arc began, making everything that follows land harder. This episode directly sets up 'Infiltration,' where the group commits to a high-risk rescue mission — a turning point that accelerates the narrative toward the Eclipse.
