This was insane. There were numerous emotions all throughout the episode. War really has no true victors - it brings hopelessness, fear, and loss. Levi telling Eren to take the path he will least regret simply shows his awareness of what he couldn't do at the time.

The action slows down to emphasize loss and public fear, making the consequences feel painfully real.

A somber aftermath episode focused on grief, guilt, and the emotional weight of failure.

Levi's speed in this episode is jaw-dropping — easily one of the most hype moments of the season. But the ride home is somber and heavy. The townspeople's reaction is ugly and real. No easy wins here.

Levi and Erwin are really hardcore when it comes to hiding their feelings. I know they’re grieving too, but they always keep a level head and don’t let their emotions take over. There were a lot of sacrifices made huhu crying lots

Well i expected that because there's a lot of hint. But the confrontation was very emotional and tense and it made a big turning point in the story and in this episode

This episode literally sat with me. The aftermath of the expedition is devastating. The civilians questioning the Survey Corps, the bodies being returned....it strips away any fantasy of glory. The cost of “progress” is painfully visible and how it's portrayed here, is amazing.

Love how this episode portrays Levi, proving that he is really a reliable and trust worthy soldier. We can all see this at the early part when they were saving eren. Every character had an important role to play which made this episode better and thrilling!

It was actually devastating to see Levi watch Petra get tossed off the wagon and he just had to keep riding while her father talked about her future later that was way too much

The way Levi moved against the Female Titan was unreal but that injury he got because of Mikasa is definitely going to be a problem later and he looked so much more human there

Those people in the crowd yelling about their taxes while the soldiers are literally bleeding out in the wagons made me so angry and Eren seeing that little kid was such a heavy moment

Dieter pushing his friends off the cart, that just gutted me; I can't imagine having to make a choice like that in the middle of a desperate chase. And Levi, he didn't say anything, but I could just see it in his eyes, he was reliving every painful squad wipe, and it makes me wonder how he even keeps going sometimes after all he's lost.

Seeing a Titan actually cry is the weirdest thing yet and it makes you wonder who is actually inside that thing and why she looked so sad after losing Eren to Levi and Mikasa

I am just devastated after seeing that return to the city, because they risked everything and for what. Watching those bodies get dumped in the dirt was already hard enough, but seeing Petra's dad show Levi that letter while he just stayed silent was the most painful thing and Eren's breakdown really hit home

Getting summoned to the capital after a failure like this is basically a death sentence for the survey corps and things are looking so bleak

Mikasa almost got herself killed because she could not keep her cool, and now Levi is sidelined with a leg injury during the most dangerous retreat ever

I thought Levi was fast before but seeing him turn that titan into ribbons was something else and he did it with a busted leg just to save Mikasa

That conversation between Petras dad and Levi was the absolute worst kind of pain and the guy was just talking about her future while Levi stood there in silence

The silence from Levi when he was talking to that father was more painful than any of the action scenes. It showed how hard his job actually is

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 22 serves as the emotional reckoning after the brutal 57th Expedition arc that dominated the back half of the season, closing out its consequences before the final stretch. The high-stakes confrontations and devastating losses of previous episodes land their full weight here. This contemplative bridge directly sets the stage for the Raid on Stohess District arc that will carry the season through its final three episodes.
