Everything unravels in the most calculated, terrifying way. Erwin's true plan becomes clear and it's brilliant and ruthless. Then the episode ends with a single act of violence that changes everything.

Armin understands Erwin’s decision, and it makes me think he could become a future commander since he already thinks like a leader. The story is getting really suspenseful now. I’m honestly itching to finally find out the truth about the mole.

I did not expect that the mission turns out like that. It felt frustrating but also realistic because the Scouts were facing a very strong enemy.

Erwin's leadership unsettles me in a compelling way. He's willing to gamble lives on instincts and patterns. When the trap for the Female Titan starts unfolding, I felt both impressed and disturbed. Victory here isn't clean, it’s a calculated one and i liked it.

I love that the season is almost done and we are still cluless on the titans real power, their origin and etc. Like how did that female titan turn her hand into ice or stone? We also get to see and grasp on what type of leader is Levi and Erwin!

I can't believe they just killed Gunther like that after he was finally starting to trust Eren. Seeing that figure come out of nowhere and slice his throat in mid air was just brutal

Armin saying you have to throw away your humanity to change things is such a dark realization. It really puts all of Erwin's crazy decisions into perspective after seeing that trap fail in the forest

I finally understand what Erwin meant when he asked Eren who the real enemy was and it is scary that the biggest threat is actually someone wearing their own uniform

The hooded figure moving through the trees using their own gear to kill Gunther makes it pretty obvious that the traitor is one of the main recruits from the training corps

Hearing Levi talk about torture while the Female Titan was trapped made the whole capture feel way more unsettling even before the screaming started

I can't believe how cold Armin was being when he talked about needing to throw away your humanity to change anything, and it makes you realize how much the world is breaking him. Then that ending with Gunther hanging from the wires just left me completely stunned because it proves Erwin was right about the spy being among them the whole time.

You think the scouts are finally safe but then Gunther gets his throat slashed by someone in their own uniform and it is honestly terrifying that the enemy is literally right next to them

That question Erwin asked Eren about who the enemy is makes so much sense now that a person in a scout uniform just killed Gunther

Watching the titans ignore the soldiers just to devour their own kind was the most disturbing thing this show has done and Erwin looks like he knew things would get this messy

I literally let out a yell when Gunther got slashed out of nowhere because he was just trying to follow the signal. Seeing his body hanging there like that really messed me up

I really felt for Jean during that talk with Armin because the cost of Erwin’s plan is getting way too high and it is scary seeing Armin justify all those deaths

My stomach turned when Gunther got sliced by that person in the green cloak because the threat is literally right next to them in the trees and nobody even knows it yet

That ending was a total nightmare because you think the danger is over once the retreat starts but the enemy is actually right there with them. Erwin has to be one of the most cold blooded leaders ever shown, and Armin justifying the deaths of so many scouts just to get a lead on the traitor is so dark.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 20 sits at a critical inflection point following the Scouts' successful capture of the Female Titan, pivoting the 57th Expedition arc from pursuit into interrogation and escalating the season's central mystery about infiltrators within humanity's ranks. The groundwork laid here — particularly around Erwin's strategy and the question of trust — directly fuels the revelations and confrontations that define the final stretch of episodes. With only five episodes remaining, the series is tightening its grip on the conspiracy that has been threading through the entire season.
