The episode focuses on preparation and emotional uncertainty before the next mission. The tension builds quietly through decision-making.

Erwin's recruitment speech is a masterclass in honest leadership. Watching each cadet choose their path is genuinely emotional, especially Jean. The Scout Regiment riding out gives me chills every time.

They already beginning to start preparing and transitioning to improved protection. The scouts prepare for an expedition outside the walls, and it was so thrilling and the tension builds up.

This episode really made Marco’s death sink in. I cried, especially seeing Jean’s determination shaped by that loss. The hardest part was seeing Marco in the robe, knowing he was meant to join the Survey Corps too. Watching this anime feels like bracing yourself for heartbreak.

There's something heavy about the expedition setup. You can tell not everyone believes in the mission, but they move anyway. Under Erwin Smith, it feels like we're stepping into something bigger than revenge. As it's strategic and purposeful, it still feel ominous as well

Best part of this episode is when Erwin was giving his speech. Eren's friends stayed to be part of the scout regiment. You can really see, hear their dedication to put an end to all this and at the same time, their fear since they are just humans! Soundtrack made the scene better

Watching almost every cadet turn around and walk away while the others just stood there shaking was so heavy and you can feel how much it hurt for them to stay

Not much happened in terms of fighting titans but the tension during the gear inspection and the branch ceremony was still high and kept things interesting

Jean holding that piece of bone and thinking about Marco made me so sad and his growth is easily my favorite part of the show right now

Erwin telling everyone they are probably going to die was brutal and the way he didn't lie to get more recruits showed what kind of leader he is

Sasha and Connie were literally crying and trembling but they still didn't leave and that takes more guts than being fearless

It is honestly wild how Jean went from the guy who only cared about a comfy life to being the one who stood there while everyone else walked away. Hearing Erwin say sixty percent of people die is insane and then seeing them put on those green cloaks and ride out into the unknown was enough to give anyone chills as the music started up

I still can't get over Erwin just dropping those death percentages like it was nothing and most of the class just bailed while Jean stayed there shaking his hands off

Jean using Marco's memory to keep himself from running away was the best part of the episode and it shows how much he's actually changed since the beginning

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned at Episode 16 of 25, this installment follows the unsettling investigation into the captured Titans' mysterious deaths and serves as the final breath before the season pivots hard toward the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission. It bridges the internal political tensions of recent episodes with the large-scale action to come, grounding the upcoming stakes in deeply personal choices. The character commitments made here will directly shape allegiances and consequences for the remainder of the season.
