Attack on Titan: Final Season Episode 5: Declaration of War

You can feel the tension in that basement. Reiner’s desperation and Eren’s cold determination intensify in tandem with Willy Tybur’s speech. That handshake, followed by the declaration of war from both Eren and Tybur, is one of the best moments in the anime.

Season 4 Episode 5 of Attack on Titan honestly felt different from the usual anime episodes I watch. The whole episode was mostly just people talking, but somehow it kept me nervous the entire time. The conversation between Eren Yeager and Reiner Braun was easily the best part. You can feel the guilt and pain from both characters, especially Reiner. Seeing Eren stay calm while talking about everything that happened made him feel much colder and more mature compared to the earlier seasons.

What made the episode so good for me was the tension. Even before the action started, it already felt like something terrible was about to happen. The basement setting, the music, and the pauses during their conversation made every scene feel heavy. I also liked how the episode showed that there are no real heroes anymore. Both Marley and Eldia caused suffering, and the story does a good job showing both sides instead of making everything simple.

Willy Tybur’s speech was another highlight. The way he spoke in front of the crowd while Eren listened from below made the ending even more intense. When Eren finally transformed, the scene hit hard because the episode spent so much time building up to it instead of rushing straight into action.

I think this episode is one of the strongest in the series because of how emotional and suspenseful it was. It did not rely only on fights. Instead, it focused on character emotions, dialogue, and tension, which made the final moments much more memorable.
