kijiplay★★★★☆AnimeApocalypse Bringer Mynoghra: World Conquest Starts with the Civilization of Ruin
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Having never left his hospital bed, Takuto Ira knew the world only through a civilization-building strategy game called Eternal Nations. After dying, he wakes up inside that game, but not as some noble hero. He's reincarnated as the King of Ruin, leader of Mynoghra, the game's most notoriously difficult and morally questionable faction. At his side is Atou, his loyal hero unit brought to life, and together they have to somehow build a nation from nothing in a cursed wasteland. What makes this 13-episode TV series interesting is how seriously it takes the strategy game angle. This isn't just "guy gets isekai'd with cheat powers." Takuto is basically playing a 4X strategy game in real life: managing resources, making alliances, dealing with starving Dark Elf refugees showing up at his doorstep, except now every decision has real consequences for real people. There's a genuine tension between the "evil" civilization he's inherited and the kind of leader he actually wants to be. If you liked Overlord's premise of ruling as a dark lord but wished it leaned harder into the nation-building side, or if Log Horizon and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom scratched that itch of political strategy in a fantasy setting, this one's worth checking out. The tone is more thoughtful than edgy, more chess match than power fantasy. It's a quiet kind of engaging; the appeal is in watching a formerly powerless person navigate power with actual care.

yoen25★★★★☆VerifiedEP 13I feel too devastated all over again, still in this episode, that not even the fight scenes could make up for it. If only Takuto had tried more to explore his own power beyond that of throwing orders and approving things. If only he realized just how strong he was or could have been--man, this was so frustrating. The twins didn't deserve all that pain. That aside, we finally get more answers about this world they're in, how it works, and what exactly is in it. We even got to see more characters from different games, as well as some apparent 'protagonists' from their own respective games. The premise was so interesting it'd be really cool once you get past ep 12's tragedy and the urge to rage in the first half of this episode.
yoen25★★★★☆VerifiedEP 12I was extremely disappointed with this episode. Although the battle scene was a sight to behold, it was too bittersweet. I don't really like the direction they went in this episode. It may have been a necessary sacrifice for the plot, sure, but what the heck, it's too traumatic. It sure makes me question why I even rewatched this lol. I feel so sad and sorry for the twins, and ultimately, for Isla. This was why I was so annoyed at Takuto. If only he had been more careful, this tragedy wouldn't have happened. Or at the very least, it could have been handled better.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 11I was really annoyed when I first watched this ep. Rewatching made me realize it was because I was annoyed that Takuto was too laid-back and trusted his memories, that was already proving to be fragmented at the time. It was starting to disappoint, but more than that, I just hated how it felt like doom was closing in and he was being blind about it. It really doesn't bode well at all given how things are playing out in this ep. Although I'd be lying if I said that the fight scenes and the building tension weren't thrilling to anticipate. It's definitely the greatest point of this ep. Especially having to see Isla in action!
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 10Remember how it felt suspiciously off by the third episode? Well, we get partial answers from this episode! Honestly, I was totally bamboozled when I first watched this episode. I thought it was just simple world-building RPG-like anime, but boy was it something even more interesting. The tension is slowly being built starting this episode. The payoff wouldn't be what you'd expect, so better stay tuned from here on out.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 9We finally got to meet the second hero, yayy! Lol, anyway, Takuto getting scolded was a sight to see. Makes it really funny to have a King get scolded XD badly. The medics weren't spared either, as well as the twins. This is exactly why I love Atou! This episode will make you cry in the latter part, so, be prepared! Such motherly warmth the twins had longed for ever since. Well, we also got to see a glimpse of how the citizens are living so far. They're surely progressing pretty well, but I honestly felt (still do) that they're slower than intended, especially given the mysterious attacks or hordes outside the forest. Although the appearance of the new hero was a good boost, it still felt kind of lacking, strategy-wise, at least.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 8Lol, the mayor never fails to crack me up. Same goes for the twins' bodyguards; they're so chaotic yet insanely powerful. They're so noisy, though; I totally relate to Carrie feeling overwhelmed. I do think that this little journey was such a great experience for the twins. Not just to have fun and explore the outside world, but also to learn better about what's expected of them from there onwards as leadership candidates.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 7Pepe is a funny idiot here, lol. Tonukapoli was stressed. But it definitely made them fare well in these negotiations thanks to his personality. It seems Takuto was also pretty happy about him, hence the much more favorable turn of events. I do feel sorry for Tonukapoli though ahaha. That said, the food they served looked so delicious, damn.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 6If you remember the twins from ep 2 and were curious about what their role is in this series, then you'd be thrilled to watch this ep. It's significant in establishing their characters and future roles. Aside from the fact that they're cute, they're pretty clever and competent for their age. Their backstory is heartbreaking, though, and you may want to prepare some tissues for that if you easily cry over stuff (I cried the first time, too!) Anyway, Takuto was such a 'for gender equality' type, even if he said it out of turn XD
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 5Peak episode. Not just because of the fight scenes, but on the lesson it gave. Not every fight is worth fighting, especially when the dangerous party was being generous with a promising negotiation. This is definitely what gets people thrown in harm's way when they have such an annoyingly egoistic 'leader' who doesn't know when to listen and how to be sensitive about the situation. All that fiasco could have been avoided, and yet, here we are. Anyway, Atou's so cool in action!
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 4Now we're talking mini warfare here. Although it's more about strategies here on this ep for the meantime, it's definitely promising. Oh, and another mystery character was being teased here. Lowkey hate that one paladin though. They seem irrational. Maybe it's their ego? Or maybe they're drunk in 'loyalty' and 'duty', you know the usual crap they spout out there. I remember thinking then that this dude will definitely get shoved back to his rightful place for acting that way. Still annoys me even after a rewatch, lol.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 3Funny enough, I was really into this talk about agriculture. I don't know much about it in real life, but it sure reminds me of those farming games I used to play. We also got to see our dear Saint here, such a pretty girl. Anyway, I remember feeling off starting this episode (important for the later eps plot twists). I can't exactly say what was off, but the pacing was good in this ep, almost suspiciously chill. And you know how it is with anime like this, lol-- a twist is definitely waiting to be realized. That said... Takuto's outfit seemed useless when he looked like 'that' in others' eyes apart from Atou, but oh well. What a creepy-looking tree Atou showed, though... like girl, no XD but funsies aside, it's a very useful tree.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 2Not a fan of the pacing. It makes sense, but I feel that it went a tad bit fast with having their first citizens. It's interesting to see Takuto's Magitech, though, and how exactly they were slowly working on them. Lol Gia was so freaking funny though. Why would the King of Ruins sound like a pacifist; peak contradiction, hahah. Again, the continuation for the world building was the most interesting part. Although the episode is a tad heavy on the dialogue again.
yoen25★★★★★VerifiedEP 1Rewatching this for the second time! This episode is what hooked me. To be fair, the opening song was a banger. But I was here initially for Atou. She's such a softie with Takuto but such a menace to everyone else, lol. The art style isn't exactly what I like for most anime I watch, but it's basically ignorable on my end from how interesting the initial world-building and lore crumb drop in this ep. Takuto's design isn't really to my liking, but Atou here is more than enough.
fedel89★★★★★VerifiedEP 13Cliffhanger ending. A lot of explaining is needed. Also new characters as well. Hoping for another season since the cliffhanger is max! At least we get to see the king's potential. If there would be another season, I would love to see the king in action! Overall, it was a good run!
fedel89★★★★★VerifiedEP 12The near end was creepy as heck. I also did not expect that to happen! What a way to almost end the whole series! Guess the final episode will be a much sadder one. I hope to see some action with the king as well!
fedel89★★★★★VerifiedEP 11Really violent episode! The whole episode is really filled with action and non stop fighting! It really felt like a defense mechanism game! Like COC! Now I want to see our King in action!
fedel89★★★★★VerifiedEP 10Pure action episode! Intriguing and it looks like the good part is starting from here. Though I feel like this would be a not so complete season. While nearing the end I am expecting at least development of their nation and romance as well!
