The storyline was very unique. It felt more like art and creative. It quite heavy for viewers who want something straightforward. We only got emotional, intense moments from the stage scene, but the ending was kinda sad. Watch if you like art, skip if you can’t handle heavy, mind-bending plots.

Todavía recuerdo la impresión que me dejó el primer capítulo del manga, ¡y este episodio replicó a la perfección el impacto que me causó! Todos los personajes son tal como los imaginaba, especialmente Akane. ¡Imperdible!

Although I had known about several anime related to the art of rakugo before, this is my first time actually watching one, so I was able to experience and learn about the art from a beginner’s perspective. I enjoy watching stories that focus on niche industries. As for the anime

It's giving Chihayafuru vibes but the quality is so much better! Love it when an anime's premise is about showing Japanese culture to the world. I'd eat this up any day

Jumping into this without knowing a thing about Rakugo, but the way this episode explains things is very easy to understand. And they did it in a way that keeps you hooked too 😮 can't wait to dive deeper

I don’t really know much about rakugo, but I get the core of episode 1, the father was putting his whole heart into his performance, pouring all his feelings out for his family 🥺✨

Great first episode! You can see where the MC gets her personality from, definitely. The "slice of life" element was executed really well, making it feel realistic and wholesome at the same time. An amazing balance for this story!

Such an unfair result on the exam; maybe Akane will find out why he chose that result in the future when she takes it for herself. However, it felt really unjust. The audience could empathize with Shinta due to the buildup before the exam with his preparation.

This episode gave such a strong introduction to both our main character and the world around her! Akane's ambition, coupled with her unwavering passion, make her very admirable and fun to watch at the same time.

The father-daughter dynamic in this show is already incredibly strong. You really feel Akane's love for her dad's art and how devastated she is when his dream falls apart. It's a great setup for her personal journey and I'm excited to see where it goes from here

This episode surprised me. I wasn't expecting such an emotional punch right at the start and Akane's determination is really something to behold, it makes me want to keep watching

The scene with Akane reading her essay to her sleeping dad broke me. It was such a sweet moment and you can tell how much she looks up to him

I appreciate how the episode explains the rakugo terms without making it feel like a lecture and it really makes you understand the stakes of the test

It's so interesting to learn about rakugo. I had no idea it was such a powerful art form and the way the anime visualizes it is just fantastic

The whole 'death' of Shinta was a clever twist. It definitely pulled you in and made you wonder what was going on. I like that they explained it pretty quickly

I couldn't believe what happened to Akane's dad. My heart really went out to him when he was disqualified. It was unfair.

Akane's motivation feels so real and compelling. I am totally rooting for her to succeed and carry on her father's legacy

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the series premiere, this episode functions as a prologue — establishing the emotional foundation and central motivation that will drive Akane throughout the entire narrative. Everything here is backstory by design, building the tragedy and determination that fuel her journey forward. Expect the timeline to leap ahead from this childhood-set opener into Akane's active pursuit of rakugo mastery.
